After glueing my Skywalker together I opened up my Turnigy 9X once again. This mod is to install the USB programmer I got in my mailbox. A few wires cut to measure and soldered directly to leads on the Turnigy PCB and the installation of the USB connector I salvaged from my computer scrap boxes. Now I only have to buy a USB-cable with A/A connectors so I can reprogram the radio
Here is a gallery

Hi,
I just bought new Turnigy 9x and need to add internal USB programmer. It looks that U did it in a perfect way. I would like to do it the same way as it looks to be a very convenient solution.
Where I can buy such a USB programmer? I would appreciate if you could send me a link to the online store in which you bought it.
Best Regards,
Damian

..nice job on this!
I also removed the 10W ribbon connector from the avr programmer, makes it so much smaller and easier to fit!

Do you always leave the programmer inside with all attached cables?
I did the same modification but when i turn my turnigy9x on it just says loading model 01 and thats all.. when i disconnect the isp programmer then it works fine.. it seems that isp programmer left inside the turnigy 9x somehow conflicts with tx. Any ideas why?

I liked the way you chose to do this mod any chance you have a closer pic of the wiring, I got the same programmer and would like to wire it in but just cant be sure I am seeing the wires correctly and enlarging these pics are too grainy thanks

Hello!
My programmer is always attached. Just make sure you do not power on your radio when connected to USB.

Is the firmware upgrade worth it? What are the advantages?

HI!
The firmware transforms your 9X into a whole new level. The options are endless. I really recommend reading the ER9X manual to get a grip of how to program the radio.

I am going to fit the programmer in my two Turnigy 9x transmitters,as you have done,i an using the same programmers as you which i got from Hobbyking ,and i have one question,on the programmer pcb there is a jumper marked J1 ,do i leave this on or disconnect ?
You may remember me from sometime back when i did the other mods to my transmitters and had some questions about it with you.
All mods are working fine and are a great help.
Happy xmas and new year Jeff

HI!
If I recall correct I did not touch the jumper – Wait…ill open it up and have a look (back in 5 minutes) DONE…It is closed with the jumper on mine…
Just remember not to power it on when you connect your USB cable…the radio gets power from the USB connector and it will fry if you also use the power switch

Hi Jeff!
You need EPEE program to update your radio
http://code.google.com/p/eepe/
It is very powerful and I recommend reading a bit before you try to use it.
Do not forget a suitable USB cable. If you mod like I did with parts from an computer you need a special MALE-MALE cable.
Once done and connected it is easy to flash your radio and to program the models from the computer, but you will need some reading on ER9X to master the programming.
Please do not hesitate to ask more questions, also do not be afraid of upgrading from TGY to ER9X as it is tons better

Hi
I am just about to connect the wires from the programmer to the main board in the Turnigy 9 x and having a look at your photo 11(wires soldered in place),it is not very clear as to whitch pads the wires are connected to.
May i suggest that photo 7 (processor close up) has the pads identified MISO, SCK ,RST, VCC ,MOSI ,GND on this photo, this would be a great help to me and others doing this mod.
best regards Jeff

Hi Jeff!
I understand you want better pictures – these were taken in a hurry and not the best to show where to connect wires.
If you do a google image search on Turnigy 9X and EEPE you end up with lots of pictures that shows labels besides the solder points.
Like this
I’m afraid I cannot show you this at the moment
